I’ve seen roofs that looked fine from the street, but up close, the granules are scoured off and the fiberglass mat is exposed, which means the sun is baking the underlayment every single afternoon. And because we get those sudden, violent downslope winds that come out of nowhere—especially when a cold front pushes through after a hot, humid day—you can have a roof that’s perfectly fine at 5 PM and missing half its shingles by 6.
