The problem is our homes here have a lot of architectural shingles that are older, and that hail hits them at an angle because of the wind, which means it doesn’t just dent the surface—it cracks the fiberglass mat underneath. You might not see a thing from the ground, but the next time it rains, that water finds its way in and rots the decking. I’ve pulled off shingles that looked fine from the street and found the back of them shattered like a dropped dinner plate.
