We’re far enough inland that we don’t get the storm surge, but those outer bands spin off tornadoes and these long, slow-rolling storms that just sit on top of you for an hour, dumping hail and twisting the wind. That’s the worst kind for a roof, because it’s not one big hit—it’s a constant, grinding assault that loosens the granules and lifts the edges of your shingles. By the time October rolls around, I see more roofs out here that look like they’ve been through a war, and it’s not because the houses are old—it’s because Mother Nature just doesn’t give Register a break.
