Look, I’ve been roofing up here for over twenty years, and I can tell you straight—Texline sits right in the bullseye of some of the nastiest weather in the Panhandle. We’re up on that high, flat caprock with nothing but open ranchland for miles, so when a spring storm system rolls down out of Colorado or New Mexico, there’s absolutely nothing to break the wind. That constant heating and cooling makes the roofing materials brittle, so when that first big hailstorm hits after a dry spell, the granules just pop right off. And with the wind coming from the southwest so consistently, the south and west slopes of your roof take the brunt every single time. I’ve seen brand-new roofs get destroyed in one twenty-minute storm, and it’s not because the work was bad—it’s just that this country is unforgiving. You can’t build a roof that’s completely immune to it, but you can make sure it’s built tough enough to survive the next one.
