Then you add hail to that mix, and that’s where the real damage comes in. We don’t get the giant grapefruit-sized stones like they do out in the plains, but we get that relentless, dime-to-quarter-sized hail that comes down sideways with the wind. It’s the combination that kills roofs—the hail bruises the shingles, knocking off the granules that protect them from the sun, and then the wind comes right behind it and peels those weakened, brittle tabs right off.
