Look, I’ve been replacing roofs out here for over twenty years, and I can tell you that Fieldton sits right in that nasty corridor where the caprock meets the open plains. That flat, endless stretch of land doesn’t just give you a pretty sunset—it gives those spring thunderstorms a runway with zero obstacles. When a supercell builds up west of here and rolls through, the wind doesn’t get broken up by hills or trees like it does in other parts of the state. It just barrels across the cotton fields and hits your roof with the full, unbroken force of a freight train. And because we’re so exposed, those storms tend to spin up little microbursts and straight-line winds that can peel shingles right off the deck, even if the hail isn’t the main event.

Now, the hail itself is a whole other animal. We get those classic late-April and May storms that stall right over the county, and they’ll drop hail the size of golf balls or bigger for twenty minutes straight.
